Cherry wood has medium strength and good bending properties. A very good wood that offers very good shock resistance and strength. It is easy to machine and nails and glues quite well when sanded and stained. Produces an excellent smooth finish. Cut cherry dries quickly with moderately high shrinkage. Because of the loss in yield during the drying of cherry wood it is considered a more premium wood. Very stable wood after kiln-drying. Fine wood grain, smooth satin texture. May contain natural brown pith flecks and small gum pockets. Cherry wood is readily available. Used in fine furniture, boat interiors, carvings and musical instruments.
